Tamsin Grainger MRSS

tamsin
Tamsin is a qualified teacher and practitioner and a Member of the Register of the Shiatsu
Society (UK) (MRSS T).

She graduated from the Glasgow School of Shiatsu in 1992 having studied the Zen Shiatsu (Masunaga) style, including Five Element (Chinese Medicine) theory, anatomy, pathology and counselling skills, plus related exercises and diet.

Since then she has continued to further her studies, concentrating on Shiatsu during pregnancy and with babies and children (working with Suzanne Yates and Peter Walker). She has a great deal of experience in working with pregnant women who are past their due date and needing a natural form of induction.

She also has experience of Shiatsu as part of cancer care.

She has practised Shiatsu in various settings, notably Scottish Widows (two and a half years), The Scottish Office, and Body Positive (supporting those who are HIV positive or who have AIDS, and their relatives).

Shiatsu for children
Shiatsu is a beautifully gentle way of working with infants. It can soothe digestion, and aid circulation; it can promote sleep and a generally happier nature by balancing up the body's energy which might have been disturbed by a challenging birth, teething etc. Much of this work can be done in a class situation in which the parent or carer is taught to carry out the massage. It is a wonderful way of developing a loving relationship with your child.

Baby Shiatsu
Classes are run in series of 5 and each one lasts for one hour. The cost is £45 (£30 concessions - 2 places available per group) and this includes a bottle of massage oil and written hand-outs to take home for aiding memory.

Tamsin also has experience in working one-to-one with babies who have been born with a difficulty in certain areas - promoting crawling and walking, for example - and other aspects of natural development that are slow to unfold.

Shiatsu for children and teenagers
Shiatsu massage is helpful for children and teenagers who suffer from headaches, asthma, eczema, repeated ear infections, difficulty in concentrating and many other problems. Shiatsu can help by identifying patterns of movement and energy that can be stimulated or soothed by the parents, or by the practitioner, and relief often follows. Tamsin believes that the parent(s) (or other primary carers) are the most important people in their child's life and she spends time showing them what is possible so the massage can be continued at home in a playful and relaxed way. Everything she does is designed to be enjoyed by the child.

These lessons last three quarters of an hour and cost £35.

Shiatsu for Parents and children
Tamsin also teaches classes in which children learn to give Shiatsu to their parents and vice versa. The classes show how children know innately what massage they need and how to give it. Tamsin has experience teaching children of all ages in many different settings including the private clinic, the school classroom and in public workshops.
