One year course - Shiatsu for Relaxation and self development

‘Shiatsu for Relaxation’ certificate course benefiting your family and friends (part-time, 11 weekends over 1 year)

This course consists of 11 monthly weekends enabling successful participants to practice Shiatsu on family and friends. It is the first year of the full 3 year practitioner training, and also a stand-alone year.

This course completes the first year of the 3-year, professional Shiatsu practitioner training, and is also a stand-alone, self development course.

Why do this course?

To enjoy learning practical Shiatsu skills that you can use to help yourself, your friends and your family to better health and wellbeing.

You will participate in a learning environment with a variety of teachers who bring skills and expertise gained from a variety of sources, and with other students who will all be sharing what they have gained through their own experiences.

We have seen people grow and develop as they learn about Shiatsu, and recognize how this has greatly enriched their lives.

Syllabus and details

* A full range of basic Shiatsu techniques, treating the whole body in four positions: prone, supine, sitting and side positions.
* Exercises for developing sensitivity to both the giver’s and the receiver’s energy (Ki).
* The Four Forms of Oriental Diagnosis.
* Chinese Five Element Theory as applied to diagnosis and (energy meridian) bodywork.
* The philosophy of Yin and Yang and its application to daily life and Oriental diagnosis and medicine.
* An introduction to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory related to Shiatsu.
* The location of the 12 classical acupuncture/acupressure meridians and their physical and psychological functions.
* The location and uses of the major acupuncture/acupressure points.
* Basic anatomy in line with the core curriculum requirements of the Shiatsu Society (UK).
* How to work holistically, considering the receiver’s mind and emotions as well as their body.
* Developing self awareness skills.
* Self-Shiatsu exercises and methods of supporting and enhancing the practitioner’s own energy and personal development.

Home study
* Home Study approx 8 hours per month.

The course will be a balanced mixture of theoretical and practical components, with a focus on experiential learning. Practical skills learned in class will be reinforced with written and practical homework set between weekends and regular constructive criticism is given.

Individual tutorials are offered half way through the course where you will get direct one to one feedback on your development. Assessments are held at the end of the year (practical and written).

Eligibility
Students will preferably have taken an introductory course in Shiatsu (evening class or introductory day), or have therapeutic experience from another field.

It may be possible for people to join the course as complete beginners, subject to an interview with one or more of the principal teachers.

The course runs over 11 weekends. 10am–5.30pm amounting to 143 hours.

Entry requirement: one day Shiatsu course or equivalent with The Shiatsu School Edinburgh (TSSED) or another recognised establishment

Fees: include all teaching, assessment and venue fees plus Shiatsu Society membership for one year. Both new and mature students are welcome.

Non-refundable deposit £160.00 (£110.00) payable in advance; 11 monthly installments of £123 from September 2012 to July 2013 inclusive. There is a £50 reduction for those who apply and pay the deposit before 30th June 2012.

Total cost: £1,513.00 (£1,463.00). Fees: include all teaching, assessment and venue fees plus Shiatsu Society membership for one year. Both new and mature students are welcome.

Extra costs: Books, 3 professional Shiatsu sessions, and, if course times are missed, tutorials (1 per teaching day £38 per hour).
