Similar to Tai Chi, Chi Gung exercises are shorter and do not require years of learning. These exercises have both a mental and physical focus, developing strength in the lower body and lightness and grace in the upper body, and encouraging a sense of connection through the body and mind. The moves are gentle, the breath is often co-ordinated to the movements, and at all times you are encourgaed to breathe naturally. The classes are suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. Chi Gung becomes most effective when it is incorporated into your daily routine; many exercises can be done while standing or sitting at work and at home.
In China, Chi Gung exercises are prescribed by a doctor because when performed on a daily basis they are therapeutic and can form part of a significant healing programme. They can relax and energise, give you the sense of your own energy flowing through the body, and often leave you with a sense of well-being and peace.
